Alfredo Card. Ottaviani (1890 - 1979)

Alfredo Card. Ottaviani was born in Rome, educated at the Pontifical Roman Seminary and ordained a priest in 1916. The list of offices he held is immense, and he was a canonist of wide repute. Standing out in his career are his elevation to the cardinalate (1953), his appointments as Secretary of the Holy Office (1959) and Prefect of the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith (1966), and his election as Titular Archbishop of Berrea, Italy, and corresponding episcopal consecration (1962).
