B. A Santamaria (1915 - 1998)

B.A. Santamaria was one of the most influential political figures in 20 century Australia though he never held public office or joined a political party. He inspired great devotion from his followers and in 1936 co-founded the Catholic Worker a newspaper dedicated to the social teaching of the Church, and particularly the encyclical Rerum Novarum of Pope Leo XIII. His group campaigned for the rights of workers and against the excesses of capitalism.
